Water consumption per person in Menorca is above the national average, at 330 litres per day compared to an average of 250 litres in the rest of Spain.

It is estimated that the water in 1 out of every 3 wells on the island exceeds the maximum salinity levels permitted for human consumption, in addition to containing the maximum levels of nitrates.

Menorca boasts a strong tradition of rural landscapes and agricultural activities. Currently, this sector owns approximately 75% of the land, but only 3 to 4% contributes to the economic sector.

Menorca Preservation Fund aims to support local organisations that develop and improve their work in sustainable agriculture and local organic food production, as well as supporting the diversification of the economic sector and supporting local food as the cornerstone of Menorca's economy.
